QR Codes for Events: Directions, Schedules and Updates
Choose stable event destinations and avoid publishing private attendee or ticket information.
Match the destination to the moment
A poster may link to event information, while a venue sign may link to a schedule or map. Keep those actions distinct and label them. Sending everyone to a broad homepage makes the scan less useful.
Separate public and private data
Do not encode private attendee details in a public sign. A generic QR generator is not a secure ticket-issuance or entry-validation system. Access-controlled tickets require a properly designed verification process beyond a static image.
Make location useful
A coordinate points to a spot, not necessarily the correct entrance. Test the map result and provide written entrance instructions when necessary. Some scanner apps will display a geo URI as text rather than opening a map.
Plan for changes and connectivity
Use a URL you can update for changing schedules. Keep essential information accessible without relying entirely on scanning, especially where connectivity may be poor. Test signs from the distance attendees will use.
