How to Print a QR Code That People Can Scan

Preserve the quiet zone, choose usable contrast and test a print at its actual size and viewing distance.

Use clean source artwork

SVG keeps module edges crisp when scaled. PNG is useful when the document app cannot handle SVG, but it needs adequate resolution. Avoid screenshots of a small preview as the print master; export the code directly.

Preserve proportions and space

Keep the symbol square and leave its blank quiet zone in place. Do not place text or decorative artwork inside that border. A layout editor can accidentally crop or stretch the image, so review the placed result as well as the original download.

Consider the surface

Glare, folds, curves and low-quality printing can affect scanning. Dark modules on a light, matte background are usually easier to distinguish than subtle colors on a reflective surface. There is no single print size that guarantees success for all payloads and distances.

Test the real object

Print one copy at final size and use more than one device. Test in the actual lighting and at the distance users will approach. Re-test after adding a logo or changing the paper, placement or destination. Keep a readable alternative URL where practical.
